At first glance, I was a bit put off by the cartoon-like graphics on the opening page, but I decided they may be just trying to set themselves apart, and to give them a chance. And, it stays kind of cutesy, with a little monitor on your home page letting you know how many kisses, flirts, smiles and e-mails you have, plus who's gotten the most of each on the site, and the most hits. Have to admit, it gave me a grin. A nice feature is that as you scroll down the photos, they tell you exactly how many miles away the person is from you, and the age of the person by the photo. They assume a radius of 60 miles from your hometown is reasonable, which is fair, I suppose. And, their membership counter said 333 new members had joined today--it did update when I joined. There were 1,648 people chatting live at 6:30 on a Sunday evening, a time when most married folks are dealing with getting dinner on the table. You have to join the paid service to join in the
chat, or to use their "Cupid's Match" service, which lets you send a
single message to multiple individual recipients to save yourself time.
I think that's kind of crass, kind of like "love spamming" or something,
but if you're more efficient than romantic, go for it. Oh, and you have
to sign up for a paid membership to retrieve any mail that anyone might
send you. So, I guess you could look at in terms of you don't pay
anything unless you get results. They have over 1.2 million members, and there were lots within a radius
of my not-so-big town, so a free look around can't hurt. Check it out at PlatinumRomance.com
